850 8=Modelrange, 5=Amount of cylinders, 0= No specific model (4-door, estate etc see below)

854 8=Modelrange, 5=Amount of cylinders, 4=4 doors, saloon.

855 8=Modelrange, 5=Amount of cylinders, 5=5 doors, stationvagon.

S70 S=version=Sedan=4 door saloon, 70=modelrange.

V70 V=version=Versality=Stationwagon, 70=modelrange.

C70 C=Coupé 70=modelrange

GL Grand Luxe. No equippment packages, basic car. Changed to S -97.

S Standard. No equippment packages, basic car.

GLE Grand Luxe Edition. Equippment package. Can be bought to the 2.0 and 2.5 liter non turbo engine equipped models. Changed to SE -97

SE Special Edition, equippment package. Can be bought to the 2.0, 2.4 and 2.5 liter non turbo engine equipped models.

GLT Grand Luxe Tourer. Car that is equipped with the 170, 165 hp 2.5 liter engine. In some contries this model is equipped with a low pressure turbo engine with 193 hp.

Turbo Full turbo engine equipped car. 225, 240 hp. 2.3 liter. Changed to T5 -95

T5 Full turbo engine equipped car. 225, 240 hp and 2.3 liter.

2.0T Full turbo engine equipped car. 220 hp and 2.0 liter. Only available in certain countries such as France and Italy

2.5T Low pressure turbo engine equipped cars. In some countries GLT. 193 hp and 2.5 liter.

2.4T Low pressure turbo engine equipped cars. 200 hp and 2.4 liter. 

T-5R Full turbo engine equipped special edition car. 240 hp and 2.3 liter. This car has got all the options and was the first "R" model from Volvo. 

850R Racing, Full turbo engine equipped special edition car. 250 hp and 2.3 liter. This car has got all the options and was the second "R" model from Volvo. 

S/V70R Racing, Full turbo engine equipped special edition car. 250 hp and 2.3 liter. This car has got all the options and was the third "R" model from Volvo. 

RAWD Racing, Full turbo engine equipped special edition car. 240 hp 2.3 liter, 250 hp and 2.3 liter or 265 hp and 2.5 liter depending on year model. This combined with AWD (See below). This car has got all the options and was the third, fourth and fifth "R" model from Volvo. 

AWD All Wheel Drive= 4 wheel driven. Equipped with the low pressure turbo engine with 193 or 200 hp.

XC (X)Cross Country. Equippment packadge to the AWD model. Higher suspension, different interia and equippment...

TDI Turbo Diesel Injection, Diesel engine equipped car. 140 hp and 2.5 liter.

2.5D Diesel, Diesel engine equipped car. 140 hp and 2.5 liter.

Classic Equippment packadge to the 2.5 liter and 140 or 170 hp equipped engine cars. Before the overtaking of the new V70 (2000-) the last V70 could be equipped with this special packadge.
